How Teledoc saved my sanity

After welcoming our second little girl to our home last month, I can’t begin to explain the level of crazy town my house has become. Don’t get me wrong—I love our newest addition and am so thankful to be a mommy to two darling little girls. But things have gotten so much harder! The simplest things become near impossible. Just getting out of the house to go to church takes a solid hour. Throw some of those dreaded winter time germs into the mix and you have a seriously tricky situation on your hands.

So that was my life last week. Two sick kids. Toddler tantrums. Mystery rash. Client deadlines. Work trips for husband. The icing on the cake? My eldest basically contracted the plague at Mother’s Day Out and kindly delivered the germs right to me. I got super sick and ended up with pink eye on top of it. Yes, pink eye, the cringe-worthy, embarrassing ailment that turns you into a social outcast and makes everyone’s eyes itch when they see you. Am I painting a clear picture for you? These were dark days.

Waiting for the call back

I called our pediatrician in the morning, had to leave a message, and predictably didn’t hear back for several hours. My other option was after hours urgent care which typically lands us in a waiting room with toddler puke on the floor and loud wailing. I also had a call into my doctor to see if she could call me in a prescription as well. Hours later, I hadn't heard from either doctor's office. Deep breaths.

Time to try something new

Then I remembered I had signed up for Teledoc through my membership plan with Take Command Health. I had never used it. I was totally skeptical but totally desperate. After visiting their website and creating a profile, I uploaded a picture of my toddler’s rash and my eye, and clicked on “Request a visit.” I held my breath, thinking to myself that this will probably just be another annoying wait game. The phone rang within five minutes. The nicest, most helpful doctor popped on the line and answered my 1,000 questions about the ailments going on in our household. While they don’t always just call in an antibiotic and sometimes an in-person visit is necessary, she called two antibiotics in for me (score!!), then gave me advice on some homeopathic remedies for my little girls. What’s more, CVS texted me that my prescription was ready about 20 minutes later. These people were on the ball! I breezed through the drive-thru at the drug store with a giddy smile that I couldn’t seem to wipe off my face. Finally, something that should have been hard was a piece of cake. My sanity—and my health—were officially recovered.
