The OE Brief: An Open Enrollment Q&A with UnitedHealthcare

The OE Brief: What’s Changing, What Matters brings together insights directly from Take Command’s carrier partners ahead of Open Enrollment. We asked each carrier the same six questions about what’s new for 2027, from affordability and network access to member experience and ICHRA. Here’s what UnitedHealthcare wants benefits consultants, employers, and employees to know as they prepare for the year ahead.

The Questions & Answers

As employees shop for coverage this Open Enrollment season, what are the biggest advantages they can expect when choosing one of your plans?

Members may have access to more ways to connect with care and get value from their plan, including virtual care options, urgent care alternatives, rewards programs, digital fitness resources, and support tools that help them better understand and use their benefits.

What new products, enhancements, or investments are you most excited about for the upcoming plan year?

For 2027, UnitedHealthcare is focused on improving access, affordability, and whole-person support. Planned enhancements may include expanded plan options in select markets, behavioral health support resources, additional rewards opportunities, virtual care enhancements, and new benefits in select markets, subject to regulatory approval.

How are you helping make healthcare more affordable and accessible for individuals and families?

Affordability continues to be a key focus. UnitedHealthcare helps members manage costs through access to lower-cost care options, virtual care resources, plan designs with more predictable cost sharing, and tools that help members better understand care options before they need them. Available benefits and cost-sharing features vary by plan and market.

What are the strengths of your provider network, and how are you improving access to care for members?

UnitedHealthcare offers members access to provider networks in many markets, with plan options designed to support different care needs and budgets. For 2027, additional network options may be available in select markets, providing eligible consumers with greater flexibility when choosing coverage, subject to regulatory approval.

What should consultants and employers know about how your plans support employees participating in an Individual Coverage HRA (ICHRA)?

UnitedHealthcare continues to invest in individual market coverage options that may be available to individuals participating in an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA). Available off-exchange options may provide eligible individuals with more plan choices across metal levels and different network options, depending on the market and plan.

Can you share how your organization supports whole-person health, including mental health, preventive care, and wellness?

Members may have access to resources that go beyond medical coverage, including virtual care services, behavioral health support resources, digital fitness programs, rewards opportunities, and tools that help connect individuals with community resources. Availability varies by plan and market.
