Ann and Zach are like many families buying insurance on the individual marketplace. Trying to minimize dollars spent on premiums and deductibles for plans that actually cover medical care (and not getting overwhelmed or confused in the process). When it comes to insurance, Ann receives health insurance through work, while Zach, a film producer, is on his own to find insurance. An untimely injury forced Zach to rethink his options as he faced some sky-high healthcare costs with his high-deductible hazard insurance he purchased through the marketplace. Ann shares with us their experiences of buying on the marketplace in the Q&A below.
How were you buying insurance prior to TCH?
We were buying insurance for Zach on the individual marketplace. Zach had coverage in the past with Molina Health–and it was a disaster! It was a basically hazard insurance with a high deductible.
How did you hear of TCH?
In 2017, Ann heard about Take Command Health. A google search for buying individual insurance in Texas brought her to Take Command Health. “I was relieved to find out there were alternatives to buying health insurance through the marketplace.”
Tell us about your experience with TCH.
Take Command Health saved our butts.
Since Zach’s plan on the marketplace was such a disaster, we wanted to make sure his new plan was a PPO. We very anxiously signed him up for a Cigna PPO and thank goodness we did. It protected us from big medical bills and ensured that Zach recieved the best care from his preferred doctors.
Unexpected surgery on an individual plan
Zach injured himself playing softball a week after our first son was born. He tore a ligament in his ankle and had to have surgery. Thankfully we were able to keep Zach’s surgery in network.
If we did not have the max out of pocket and in network coverage that Take Command Health found us, we would be buried in debt for a long time.
Will you use Take Command Health in 2018?
Absolutely! We received a letter not too long ago that Zach’s PPO policy won’t exist in 2018. So we will be leaning on Take Command Health for advice on what to do next year! Zach’s PT and follow up care will extend into next year so we will want to keep those in mind when shopping for a new plan.
