Frequently Asked Questions
With an ICHRA, employees choose their own individual health insurance plan as opposed to a traditional group health plan which the employer chooses for all employees. Employees will choose & enroll in their chosen qualified health plan. Employees' Take Command AutoPay account details will be used to pay monthly premiums to their carriers. Any employee contribution (ie. premium amount higher than the employee's monthly allowance) will be deducted via payroll. With an ICHRA, you own your health plan policy!
Monthly ICHRA allowances are determined by your employer's ICHRA design and are specific to individuals. You can view your monthly allowance when you log into your Take Command portal.
Employees age 65+ are required to sign up for Medicare. Similarly, all employees turning 65 must enroll in Medicare. If you had prior group health coverage, you may only be enrolled in Medicare Part A. Employees on Medicare will need both proof of coverage for A+ B or Part C to participate in their ICHRA.
Please review the Medicare resources linked on this page. Take Command has a partner that can help you enroll in Medicare.
Individual plans vary by zip code. When entering your dependents and household members, you'll enter their date of birth and zip code. After you shop for yourself, you'll be prompted to shop for insurance plans for any dependents and family members in other zip codes on the federal marketplace (healthcare.gov), a state exchange, or directly with a carrier. Then, you'll "Add a premium" on your Take Command portal and upload proof of coverage. See this document for more information.
After you choose and purchase your health insurance plan on the Take Command platform, the Take Command team will submit an Easy Enroll application to your respective insurance carrier. If possible, we will also make the initial premium payment (aka binder payment) and set up recurring payments. If you purchased an Extra-Step plan you will have to take an additional action (such as submitting payment). If you selected a Self-Enroll plan, you will need to enroll yourself on the carrier's website or Exchange using your Take Command AutoPay account details, then return to the Take Command platform to confirm your coverage.
Take Command typically contacts employees through email. You may receive emails from HireArt.Care@takecommandhealth.com, support@takecommandhealth.com, or directly from a Take Command team member. Occasionally, we will reach out via phone or text message. Please make sure to open and read any message from Take Command!
Your insurance carrier will likely mail you some correspondence. They will also contact you through the email you provided when enrolling.
If you have a QLE, you are eligible to re-shop and choose a new health insurance plan. Simply log into your Take Command portal. On your dashboard, you will see a module that says "Has your situation changed?" with a button to "Explore qualifying life events". Click this button to start the process on the platform. If you have a baby and want to add them to your plan, contact your insurance carrier within 60 days of the birth. After completing this with your carrier, you can upload your proof of coverage and any supporting documents with new premium amount through the QLE module on your Take Command dashboard and we will adjust your premium in our system.
You have 60 days from your initial eligibility date to enroll in a qualified health plan. After 60 days have passed you'll have to wait until the following Open Enrollment period unless you have a qualified life event (QLE) such as getting married, having a baby, or moving. Don't wait and risk missing your enrollment window!
Contact your insurance carrier if you have questions about specific claims.
If you enroll in an Easy-Enroll or Extra-Step plan on the Take Command platform and experience coverage issues, you can reach out to the Take Command for assistance with your carrier. If you enroll in a Self-Enroll plan, you should work directly with your insurance carrier and your health provider.
Some insurance carriers will mail your card to you. Others only provide digital versions on your insurance carrier portal. If you can't find it on your insurance carrier member portal, we recommend calling your carrier. If you have an Easy Enroll plan and you can't find it on your insurance portal, please contact your Take Command Customer Experience Team.

One of the best aspects of ICHRA is you own your own insurance policy! It is portable and you can keep your health insurance plan if you leave your company. You'll need to make sure you enter your personal payment details on your carrier's website. You'll pay the full premium monthly for as long as you want to keep active coverage. If you will have different insurance coverage after leaving your employer and you don't want to keep your insurance policy, just contact your insurance company and cancel your coverage.
Although your employer may be required to offer COBRA, in most cases it is not advantageous for employees to elect it. Why? If you leave your company, you can choose to keep your individual health plan since you own the policy! You would continue to pay the full premium amount to the insurance carrier and not receive reimbursements from your former employer. Choosing this option allows you to retain your health plan as long as you want, but you only have to pay your monthly premium and you are not subject to additional COBRA administration fees!
